After hearing about Gerodère's
proposal, Oscar protests angrily at General Jarjayes ("I won't listen
to you! You can't just command a person's heart!") and storms out of
the room. Back in her own room, she sits alone with her violin, thinking
dejectedly about her life: "Marriage? To bear a strong, capable child? He's got to be crazy to come up with such a silly idea. Me getting married?" |
