Ulrike Strasser

Ulrike Strasser is Associate Professor of History and Affiliate Faculty in Women’s Studies and Religious Studies at the University of California, Irvine. She is the author of State of Virginity: Gender, Religion and Politics in an Early Modern Catholic State (Ann Arbor, 2004; paperback 2007). The study received the 2005 Book Award from the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women and was honored as a finalist for ‘Das Historische Buch 2004’. Her current monograph Consuming Missions explores the activities of German missionaries in the Pacific Rim and the ways in which their narratives from the colonial periphery informed the formation of religio-political identities ‘back home’ in the Holy Roman Empire.
