yamamba04

A mask used in the Umewaka school. In some ways closer to the serpent mask (ja) than an old woman. The presence of the ears, the sunken sockets and the grotesque realism of the teeth and gums set this mask apart from other Yamamba masks. (Notes from Brazell and Bethe, Noh as Performance, p. 137)
