Surihaku (inner robe): the triangle pattern represents serpent scales. In the first half of a demonic woman play, the character's inner robe has this pattern on it; this is one hint of her true "serpent" nature (i.e. lustful jealousy). In the second half of the play the outer robe is turned down (or exchanged for hakama split trousers) to fully reveal the serpent scales. The actor will choose the color combination depending on his interpretation of the level of the woman's demonic rage: the stronger red-gold combination indicates a higher degree of internal "heat" fueled by lust and rage.
