Kantan Otoko: originally used for the play Kantan, in which a young Chinese man is torn between worldly ambitions and more spiritual aspirations. It came to be used for young, vigorous gods in plays that celebrate fertility. See the Sumiyoshi Kami from the second half of Takasago below. Note that the costume's split skirt makes it possible to do the quick, lively movements and powerful stamps appropriate to this character's nature. The wide sleeves add emphasis to the god's broad, sweeping gestures.
