Waki: Though the waters of the Hitaka river seethe and dry up, though the sands of its shores run out, can the strength of our holy order fail?

(They pray, their prayer beads clasped in their hands)

Waki/Waki-tsure: All raise their voices together

Waki: to the East, the Guardian King, Conquerer of Demons;

W-Tsure: to the South, the Guardian King, Conquerer of Demons;

Waki: to the West, the Guardian King, Conquerer of Evil Serpents and Dragons;

W-Tsure: to the North, the Guardian King, Conquerer of Frightful Monsters;

Waki: and you in the center, Messenger of the Sun, All Holy Immoveable One

All 3: Will you make the bell move? Show us the power of your avenging noose!...
