Ohno Kazuo, "Admiring La Argentina" (1977)

Choreographed by Hijikata, "Admiring La Argentina" recreated Ohno's formative experience of seeing La Argentina (Antonia Merce, a famous flamenco dancer of the 1920s and 30s) perform at the Imperial Theater in Tokyo in 1929. "From the first moment, I was moved almost beyond bearing. I was totally stunned. This was the encounter that changed life." (Ohno Kazuo, "Encounter with Argentina," trans.
