Mikazuki (The Winnow Basket Hat): A poet tells his wife to prepare for guests because he's invited his friends over for a renga (linked verse) poetry meeting. She refuses saying there's no food in the house, and he needs to find some "real" work. This develops into an argument which ends with her asking for a divorce. He tries to convince her that his poetry will someday make them rich by telling her a story about a Chinese poet, but this fails to convince her. She asks for something to take with her, and he gives her the winnow basket, which she puts on her head. As she's walking out the door, he recites the first part of a poem, and she comes back and finishes it, because there's a proverb which says if you don't finish a poem you'll be reincarnated as a mouth-less insect. He begs her to stay, promising to give up poetry and get a job. She finally consents, and they dance and sing in celebration of their union. In the image above, the poet recites his poem. In the image below, the husband contemplates the winnowing basket, and his wife puts it on her head.
