Aikyogen roles

Katari: telling the "backstory" in the middle of the play in an easier to understand form; allows the shite time to change costume for the second act.

The subsidiary deity in Kamo who appears between the first and second acts. Again allows time for the shite and tsure to change costume, and provides some light comic relief.

Kyogen actors also play minor roles in Noh plays, such as the temple servants in Miidera and Dojoji who try to keep the woman out of the temple but give in because they want to see her dance. Above the temple servant in Miidera is demonstrating the various tones of bells at temples. Below, the temple servants in Dojoji raise the bell at the start of the play.

Below, another minor character from the play Hanjo: on the bridge we see the female owner of the inn complaining that Hanjo is not doing her fair share of work.
