In this series of images from Kusabira (The Mushrooms) a yamabushi frantically attempts to exorcise mushrooms from the garden of an aquaintance, but they keep multiplying endlessly. Finally, a huge "demon" mushroom arrives and chases the terrified yamabushi and his friend off. A wide variety of masks are used for the mushrooms, including Kentoku and Usobuki. The Oto (young woman) mask is used for the little "princess" mushroom (played by a child actor wearing a bright red robe and hat). The demon mushroom who enters last wears the Buaku (demon) mask. Looking at these pictures and after watching the video, how is the visual sense of mushrooms created?
