Umeo and Matsuo come to blows at their father's 70th birthday celebration. In their fight they inadvertantly break the cherry tree in their father's garden. This is a sign that their brother Sakuramaru will soon commit suicide to atone for his mistake in acting as a go-between for Lady Kariya and his master Prince Tokiyo.
