Print by Kunihira Kunichika of a scene from a Kabuki version of the Okiku story.

Here Okiku sweeps down from above on her former master, pulling his umbrella inside out. This movement downward probably refers to one version of the story, in which Aoyama hung Okiku upside down above the well, asking her one last time if she'd become his mistress. When she refused, he let her fall to her death. Note her snake-like body and the "tama" fire hovering in the air nearby.
