PART TWO: IMAGE IDENTIFICATION

C. For each of the following images (5 points each):  
1) Identify the kind of theater (Noh, Kyogen, Bunraku, Kabuki, Shinpa, Post-Shingeki, Butoh). 2) If you can, identify the play or dance (use the list on the first page of the test) 3) Tell me as much as possible about the pictures, including how the various elements of costume, make-up/mask, and movement techniques help create character and express emotion.

D. The following three images are of specific techniques used in traditional or contemporary theater. Identify the theater form, describe the technique/s and briefly discuss its significance to the theatrical form including (if relevant) how it functions to express character/emotion etc. If you don’t know the Japanese term, just describe it as precisely as you can. (5 points each)

These are images useful for answering essay question C1 or C2 on the use of traditional theater techniques and aesthetics in contemporary theater.
