EA 190 Shakespeare & Japan: Attendance, Participation, Discussion Questions

You will get 30 points each week, based on attendance (10 points), class participation (10 points) and answer to discussion questions (10 points). See below for the grading rubric.

Attendance (10 points)

Attendance policy

Just showing up gives you 10 points. If you miss class because of illness, you need to contact me ASAP to see how you can make this up.

Participation (10 points)

You have 10 possible points for class participation. Every time you speak in class, you get 2.5 points. You can also get 2.5 points by coming to see me during my office hours to talk over the class materials. Finally, you can get participation points (2.5 points each substantive comment) for participating in the weekly forum question, starting from week 4-5:

Week 4-5 forum: Free Will in Throne of Blood

Week 5-6 forum: Hag of the Forest versus the Weird Sisters

Week 6-7 forum: Does Lear learn anything from his suffering?

Week 7-8 forum Hidetora's journey of self-discovery

Week 8-9 forum

Week 9-10 forum

Discussion Questions (10 points)

Grading Rubric: The answers to the following should be typed (NOT handwritten) so that they can be used for class discussion. They will be turned in at the end of class (but feel free to write on them during the discussion).

Indicate the question you are answering, but do NOT copy all of the question into your answer!

To get full credit your answers to discussion questions:

1) will be typed and spell-checked, with few or no grammatical mistakes, typos, and missuse of words that might interfere with my understanding of your point.

2) will follow directions and answer the question/s. If I ask for a list, a list is fine. If I ask for a longer answer, make sure you present it in such a way that I can understand your argument.

3) will provide lines/page numbers for quotations that support your points. If you do not give me specific lines/page numbers (Shakespeare) or scenes (films) you will lose points!!
