There will be two parts to the exam.

Part I. 40 minutes.
Choose one of the following quoted sections and analyze it closely. Your essay should begin or end with a general claim.
Suggestion: Practice for this part of the exam by using quoted material that you select. Use either the method of identifying important details and discussing them or the method of making an observation and saying "So what?" to shape your analysis.

Part II. 40 minutes
Choose one of the following essay topics and write in response to it. Your essay should have a main point.
